The Devil And Tom Walker

There is many things that I can infer on the characters in the story The Devil and Tom Walker. I first can infer with direct characterization on the character Tom Walker that he is unhappy being with his wife, "There lived near this place a meagre miserly as himself". I can also infer about this couple themselves, Tom and his wife, that they are poor, lonely, and sad, using indirect characterization. "They lived in a forlorn looking house, that stood alone and had an air of starvation". I can infer on Tom's wife with direct characterization that she was a unpleasant person to be around, and had a very bad attitude."Tom's wife was a tall termagant, fierce of temper, loud of tongue, and strong of arm". As I read on, Tom meets old scratch in the woods, with indirect characterization, I can infer that this man was the devil himself."And seemed, as Tom said, to go down, down, down, into the earth, until nothing but his head and shoulder could be seen, and so on until he totally disappeared".(I inferred that he is receding back into the depths of hell).

The theme to this story is something very deep. I think one theme to this story can be not to be over taken with greed for something you want. You see where it got Tom and his wife. Another theme to this story could be to live life thankful for the things that you do already posses. Having money or material objects is not so important to damn yourself to hell because of your greed.The theme to this story to me is to appreciate.

Green Eggs And Ham

My childhood book that i chose is Green Eggs and Ham the theme in the book is to never say something is not good until you try it out for yourself, because once you do try it out you might feel differently about it. I feel like the author gave me the idea that this is the theme because he kept denying the dish until he finally tried it and enjoyed it. He wanted to have it more and more. And that is why I think that the theme is basically TO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. Because Green Eggs And Ham might look discusting and nasty but the taste can end up being deliscous .
